FutureArt Easter Exhibition — “Eat me” and “Em Tae” by Lapin Mignon x Future Art on Nifty Gateway (4th April 2021)
A couple of months ago, Kitty Bast and I were tweeting about Rabbits, and why there were so many rabbits in the NFT world. we concluded, that the parralel with the NFT world and Alice in Wonderland was obvious. And if the NFT were the Wonderland, CryptoArt would have been the Mad Hatter Tea Party, where the jolly ones gather without really embracing the rest of the kingdom in a crazy atmosphere.
This has not been left unnoticed, as a couple of weeks after we got contacted by FutureArt curators, SatsMoonSoon and Dave Goode, to be part of the Easter Exhibition from 1st April 2021 in Sydney. They were amazed we are all on the same page, and they already had the Wonderlands theme party in the pipeline.
As soon they contacted me, my head was buzzing with ideas. How come not to get inspired by such a theme.
I wanted to create 2 artworks — before and after the rabbit hole.
I have then started to chose some soft colours to recreate the fresh spring coming, and some golden ink and shiny salt to give some magical sprinkles.
Then, I draw my favorite pet, a Rabbit, un Lapin! But like… under a mushroom — why not. And I gave him this baffled look wondering “Where are they all gone” — This is the look my rabbit will always give to me :D
I like the idea we are lost in scale — you are not sure if the rabbit is small or the mushroom is big. Then “Eat Me” was completed. very naive, quiet watercolour with satin and gold effect.
I then worked on a digitalised version of “Eat Me” to reverse all the effect, and animate the rabbit — all become dark, shiny with disco stars glowing. You are plunged in a different world, still the same, but still different… “Em Tae” is born.
I love showing my step by step process on twitter, but I wished to keep this project secret — so I only shared the WIP with FutureArt duet, SatsMoonSoon and Dave Goode. They got very excited. at one point, they asked if they can get the physical painting sent over to them. I never send original, because I keep them for my kids, but for once, I said yes and made a parcel to Australia.
Future Art was keen to add a soundtrack onto it. And they did an amazing job at it. They first created a soundtrack for “Eat Me” — nice rythm, tribal and light. and then, for the “Em Tae” they tweaked ingeniously the music, is pitched down and tripped out — the effect is instant — it really augment the Parallel world effect.
Now the 2 artworks are ready to meet the world On Nifty Gateway https://niftygateway.com/ 4th April 2021, 11.30pm UK time. And I will be on Nifty Gateway Discord for an AMA from 5pm — come and say hi :) https://discord.gg/6tjGJWSy
Artwork Description: “Eat Me” is drawing the parallel between CryptoArt and the “real world”. This is this exact pivoting moment where the artist is about to fall down the rabbit hole. Something is happening down there, this is attracting but at the same time very weird. It echoes in your brain that all sounds too good to be true. So you stand here, hesitating and bemused. Come ‘on, follow the rabbit…
… And then you discover “Em Tae”, the other side of the Wonderlands… the world is getting animated — yes, the transformation is now happening — you are becoming a CryptoArtist. No come back possible.
This Artwork is embedded with an Augmented Reality Feature — Download Artivive, and enjoy the journey on the other side of the world.
Eat Me (light) and Em Tae (Dark) are available on Nifty Gateway https://niftygateway.com /, Sunday 4th April 2021, 11.30pm UK time — I am so excited about it. The Future Art duet really kept their promise.
Enjoy and tell me what you think about it :)
